Overview

Oracle Red Bull Racing is a premier Formula 1 constructor and racing team that designs, manufactures, and competes with high-performance single-seater cars. Based in Milton Keynes, the team is a subsidiary of the Red Bull energy drink company and is recognized as one of the most successful engineering entities in modern motorsport.

History

The team's origins lie in Stewart Grand Prix, which debuted in 1997 and was later purchased by Ford to become Jaguar Racing in 2000. After years of struggling for results, Ford sold the team to Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz in late 2004. Rebranded as Red Bull Racing, the team entered the 2005 season with Christian Horner as Team Principal and quickly established itself as a disruptive force in the paddock. A pivotal moment occurred in 2006 when the team recruited Adrian Newey, widely considered the greatest designer in Formula 1 history. Under Newey's technical leadership, the team developed a series of aerodynamically superior cars that culminated in a dominant period between 2010 and 2013. During this time, the team won four consecutive Drivers' and Constructors' World Championships with Sebastian Vettel. Following the introduction of turbo-hybrid regulations in 2014, the team faced several seasons of performance deficits relative to Mercedes, primarily due to engine limitations. However, a strategic switch to Honda power units in 2019 revitalized the team's prospects. This partnership led to Max Verstappen winning the Drivers' Championship in 2021 in one of the most contested seasons in the sport's history. In recent years, Red Bull Racing has achieved a new level of dominance, securing the Constructors' titles in 2022 and 2023. To ensure long-term independence, the team established Red Bull Powertrains to develop its own power units. They have also expanded into the ultra-exclusive performance car market with the announcement of the RB17 hypercar, designed by Adrian Newey. Currently, the team is preparing for the 2026 regulatory changes, which will see them partner with Ford for power unit development. This move marks their transition from a high-end racing team to a fully integrated automotive manufacturer capable of producing both chassis and powertrains in-house.
