Overview
Rodin Cars is a New Zealand-based manufacturer specializing in ultra-high-performance, track-only hypercars designed to rival the performance of modern Formula 1 machinery. Founded by technology entrepreneur David Dicker, the company focuses on extreme engineering, in-house manufacturing, and a dedicated testing facility located in the remote South Island of New Zealand.
History
Rodin Cars is the realization of a lifelong vision by Australian entrepreneur David Dicker. The journey began in 2006 when Dicker purchased the 550-hectare Wandle Downs Station in New Zealand's South Island to build a world-class manufacturing and testing facility. The company was officially established with a full-time engineering workforce in 2016, marking its transition from a personal project to a commercial automotive constructor. The manufacturer's first major milestone was the acquisition of the Lotus T125 program, a stillborn track car project from the UK. Rodin re-engineered and refined the concept, addressing reliability and usability issues to launch it as the Rodin FZED in 2019. This open-wheel racer, powered by a Cosworth V8, established Rodin's reputation for delivering Formula-level performance for private track enthusiasts. In 2022, Rodin unveiled its first completely in-house designed vehicle, the FZERO. Developed without the constraints of road or racing regulations, the FZERO features a bespoke twin-turbocharged V10 engine (the RC.Ten) and a focus on extreme aerodynamics. The project highlighted Rodin's commitment to vertical integration, with most components including the engine and titanium structures being manufactured on-site. Recent years have seen Rodin expand its footprint into international motorsport. In 2023, the company acquired a majority stake in the legendary junior formula team Carlin Motorsport, which was subsequently rebranded as Rodin Motorsport. Although the company's ambitious bid to join the Formula 1 grid as an 11th team for 2025 was rejected by the FIA, Rodin remains a dominant force in the global racing ladder, supporting talent across Formula 2, Formula 3, and F1 Academy.
