Overview

Vanwall is a revived historic racing brand that now operates as a manufacturer of high-performance electric vehicles and racing prototypes. The company focuses on integrating advanced motorsport technologies into road-legal hypercars and electric hatchbacks, positioning itself as a niche luxury EV specialist.

History

Vanwall was originally established in the 1950s by Tony Vandervell as a British motor racing team and constructor. The team achieved significant acclaim by winning the inaugural Formula One Constructors' Championship in 1958, with drivers Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks. However, following the tragic death of driver Stuart Lewis-Evans and the founder's declining health, the team was disbanded in 1960. After sixty years of dormancy, the brand was revived by Dr. Colin Kolles, a veteran Formula 1 team principal. The new entity, Vanwall GmbH, established its operations in Germany and focused on high-performance engineering and racing. The company developed the Vandervell 680 to compete in the Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) class of the FIA World Endurance Championship. In recent years, Vanwall has transitioned into a road car manufacturer, unveiling the Vandervell S electric hatchback in 2023. This model leverages the Hyundai E-GMP platform but features bespoke carbon fiber bodywork to enhance performance. The company continues to develop ultra-exclusive hypercars like the Vandervell 1000, positioning itself as a niche player in the high-performance EV market.
