Airbag Fabric (PA66 HT)
Woven high-tenacity PA66 airbag fabric, distinct from moulding nylon and interior polyester cloth.
Overview
Airbag fabric is woven high-tenacity PA66 (and some PA46 or polyester) yarn, uncoated or silicone-coated, cut and sewn into driver, passenger, side and curtain cushions. The fibre is a high-tenacity industrial yarn, not the library's moulding-grade nylon, and not interior polyester cloth. Coatings (typically silicone) control permeability and pack volume; uncoated scoured fabrics are used where the weave itself meets leakage specs. Heat-ageing, fold-pack and inflator-gas compatibility are the automotive tests; the fabric must deploy from a compacted pack after a decade in a hot cockpit. Typical buyable forms are greige or coated fabric rolls and cut panels. It is a safety textile, not an interior trim cloth.
