Anodised Aluminium
Anodic oxide on aluminium for luxury interior trim and hard-anodised wear, distinct from steel phosphate.
Overview
Anodised aluminium is aluminium with an electrolytic anodic oxide grown on the surface — decorative colour and seal for interior and exterior trim, or a harder, thicker coat for wear. It is a finish on aluminium, not a new bulk alloy. Phosphate conversion in the library is a steel pretreatment before e-coat. Anodising is specific to aluminium (and some magnesium) and is specified for luxury switchgear, pedals, speaker grilles, roof rails and hard-anodised sliding or wear faces. Colour comes from dyeing or electrolytic colouring of the porous oxide, then sealing. Typical buyable form is the anodised component or coil, not a bottle of coating. Hard anodising (Type III) is a different specification from decorative Type II.
