PA12
Unreinforced polyamide 12 for fuel and air lines, distinct from PA12/CF composite.
Overview
Unreinforced polyamide 12 (PA12) is the nylon used for multilayer fuel lines, air-brake and pneumatic tubes, and some cable jacketing. Low moisture uptake versus PA6/PA66 and excellent fuel resistance are the reasons it is specified. This is not Nylon (PA6/PA66) and not Nylon Carbon Fibre (PA12/CF). Those pages cover the generic polyamide family and the short-fibre composite; this page is neat or plasticised PA12 for extrusion of lines. Typical form is extruded multilayer tube, often with EVOH barrier layers. It remains a recyclable polyamide when recovered from fuel-line scrap.
