Polyoxymethylene (POM / Acetal)
A high-precision engineering thermoplastic known for its exceptional stiffness, low friction, and dimensional accuracy, widely used in automotive mechanical components.
Overview
Polyoxymethylene (POM), also known as acetal or Delrin™, is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic with outstanding mechanical stiffness, low coefficient of friction, excellent fatigue resistance, and high dimensional accuracy. It maintains its properties across a wide temperature range and resists fuels, oils, and solvents. In automotive engineering, POM is the material of choice for precision mechanical components requiring tight tolerances: fuel system parts, door lock mechanisms, gear wheels, bushings, clips, and sliding elements. Its self-lubricating nature makes it ideal for metal replacement in moving components, reducing weight and eliminating the need for lubrication.
