Jaguar Type 01 unveiled in New York: 1,030 PS JEA four-door EV GT to be built at Solihull from 2027

What launched

Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a luxury four-door electric GT, at a world premiere at STORIED in West Chelsea, New York. The event took place on the evening of 6 October local time, and JLR’s releases are dated 7 October 2026. Type 01 is the first production Jaguar under the brand’s “exuberant modernist” creative philosophy and the first car on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Orders open in early 2027 with prices from £130,000 (US MSRP from $130,500), and first client deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027.

Key specifications (OEM)

  • Tri-motor all-wheel drive: a 260 kW front motor and twin 310 kW rear motors housed in one rear electric drive unit (EDU), with fast-switching silicon carbide inverters
  • Up to 1,030 PS / 1,365 Nm; 0–62 mph in 3.2 s; 62–112 mph in 4.0 s
  • 850-volt architecture; 118 kWh usable lithium-ion battery with 200 side-terminal prismatic cells and Jaguar NMC chemistry
  • Expected range of up to 400 miles EPA (450 miles / 720 km WLTP); up to 200 miles added in 13 minutes at 350 kW
  • 5,235 mm long and 1,403 mm tall; drag coefficient 0.23; 50:50 weight distribution; more than 360 patent applications

Manufacturing footprint

JLR says Type 01 will be built at Solihull, with EDUs and battery packs made in Wolverhampton and pressed body panels from Halewood, Merseyside. Work on the production lines is at an advanced stage, and production is due to begin in 2027. Nearly 9,000 Solihull employees have been retrained to build EVs. JLR also points to the 60,000 jobs its West Midlands supplier network sustains. Since announcing its £15–18 billion five-year investment programme in 2024, the company says it has invested £11.5 billion, most of it in the UK.

“Designed, engineered and built in the UK, Jaguar is a copy of nothing and is a vital part of JLR's growth story.” (PB Balaji, CEO, JLR, OEM statement)

Named suppliers and technology partners

The OEM technical release names six partners:

  • Pirelli: bespoke P Zero tyres in all-season, winter and summer compounds
  • Bosch: VDC 2.0 stability software, developed with Jaguar engineers
  • NVIDIA: the central cockpit controller and ADAS compute
  • Meridian: the 38-speaker Jaguar Immersive Sound System
  • Kvadrat: Woolblend DuoWeave textile
  • Ultrafabrics: NeoGrain upholstery

JLR has not named the battery cell supplier and has not disclosed planned production volumes.

Procurement / BD takeaway

Type 01 leans heavily on in-house content. JLR describes the electric propulsion technology as its own, and the EDUs and battery packs come from its Wolverhampton site, so external opportunities on this programme are more likely to sit in cells, power-electronics content, thermal-management hardware, and chassis, interior and electronics systems than in complete drive units. The body is 73% aluminium. Jaguar’s “Impossible Panel” rear quarter takes a six-stage, 2,500-tonne pressing process at Halewood, which makes aluminium sheet, tooling and joining capability areas to watch. The active aero hardware (Active Vanes and a three-stage spoiler), frameless doors, air suspension and All-Wheel Steer are further content areas, but no suppliers have been named for them. Separately, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has sought shareholder approval for battery-cell related-party transactions between JLR and Tata’s Agratas (BusinessToday, June 2026). JLR has not linked that agreement to Type 01, so treat any cell-supply link as unconfirmed. Watch for confirmation of the cell source, annual volumes and the 2027 SOP timing.
