Aluminium Alloys (2000 Series)
Heat-treatable aluminium-copper alloys (2xxx) for high-strength aerospace and hypercar structures.
Overview
The 2000-series aluminium alloys are aluminium-copper grades, heat-treatable to high strength and long used in aircraft skins and spars. The library already has 5000, 6000 and 7000 family pages and a generic aluminium parent that only teases 2xxx; this is the dedicated Al-Cu listing. In LVHV they appear where specific strength and fatigue performance beat 6xxx, but where 7xxx corrosion or quench sensitivity is unwelcome — inner structures, some chassis nodes, and motorsport fabricated parts. Formability is poorer than 5xxx and 6xxx, so they are not the first choice for Class-A outer panels. They are distinct from aluminium-lithium (which may sit in or beside 2xxx chemistry) and from Al-Si casting alloys. Welding needs specialist procedures; mechanical joining and adhesive bonding are common on mixed-material hypercar bodies.
