Carbon/Epoxy Prepreg
Thermoset carbon-fibre/epoxy prepreg used as the buyable body and chassis material for LVHV programmes.
Overview
Carbon/epoxy prepreg is the workhorse buyable form of structural CFRP for low-volume high-value vehicles: unidirectional or woven carbon fibre pre-impregnated with a B-staged epoxy resin, supplied on the roll under refrigeration. The existing carbon-fibre / CFRP family page describes the cured structure; this listing is the material that body shops and chassis cells actually purchase, kit and cure. Autoclave and out-of-autoclave grades cover monocoques, body-in-black panels, aero and crash structures. Resin systems are chosen for glass-transition temperature, toughness and out-time rather than for mass-production cycle time. Prepreg enables tightly controlled fibre volume fraction and surface quality that wet-laminate or infusion routes struggle to match on Class-A luxury skins. It remains a thermoset: once cured it is not remeltable, which is why thermoplastic tapes (CFRTP) and recycled-carbon routes sit as separate library entries. Handling needs frozen storage, controlled thaw and defined out-life — a specialist logistics burden accepted on hypercar, GT and limited-series programmes.
