CFRTP (Continuous-Fibre Thermoplastic)
Continuous-fibre reinforced thermoplastic composite family, distinct from ART carbon tape processes.
Overview
CFRTP is the family of continuous carbon- or glass-fibre thermoplastic composites — organosheets, tapes and hybrid blanks that can be stamped, overmoulded and welded. It is a class page, not a single process: automated tape laying, organosheet press-forming and in-situ consolidation all sit underneath it. ART Carbon in this library is one tape process, not the whole class. The thermoplastic matrix (PA, PP, PPS, PEKK and others) is remeltable, which is the point versus thermoset prepreg: shorter cycle potential, weldability, and a more credible recycling story. LVHV uses include anti-intrusion beams, floor panels, seat structures and some body closures on luxury and performance programmes. It does not automatically replace autoclave CFRP on Class-A hypercar skins; surface quality, fibre architecture and tool temperature still have to be engineered. Specify the matrix and fibre form, not just CFRTP.
