Nomex Honeycomb Core
Aramid-paper honeycomb core for fireworthy sandwich structures, distinct from Nomex fibre and textile.
Overview
Nomex honeycomb is a meta-aramid paper core expanded and resin-dipped into hexagonal cells. It is not the same listing as Nomex fibre or textile: this is the sandwich core used in fireworthy, low-mass panels where aluminium honeycomb would add galvanic risk or thermal conductivity. Aerospace and motorsport tubs, firewalls, seat shells and interior sandwich panels use it for FIA and FAR-style flammability performance and dielectric isolation from carbon skins. It is lighter than aluminium honeycomb at comparable stiffness in many sandwich stacks, but crushes differently and is more sensitive to moisture and edge potting. Luxury GT and hypercar interiors often combine Nomex cores with carbon or flax skins for bulkheads and parcel shelves. It is a processed aramid honeycomb, not a yarn, felt or racing-suit fabric.
