EPP Foam
Expanded polypropylene energy-absorber foam for bumper cores, distinct from PU and acoustic foams.
Overview
Expanded polypropylene (EPP) is a closed-cell, bead-moulded energy-absorber foam used for bumper cores, head-impact pads, knee bolsters and some seating and logistics inserts. It recovers after impact better than many PU absorber foams. It is distinct from Polyurethane Foam (seating and NVH) and Acoustic Foams (open-cell melamine and PU). EPP is a polyolefin foam, steam-chest moulded from beads, not a pour-in-place reaction. Recyclable as polypropylene when clean. Density is tuned by bead type and packing in the chest, not by chemistry in the tool.
