Electrical Steel (NOES)
Non-oriented electrical steel for traction-motor and generator laminations.
Overview
Non-oriented electrical steel (NOES) is a silicon-iron sheet processed for isotropic magnetic properties in rotating machines. It is the lamination material for most automotive traction motors, integrated starter-generators and onboard generators — a different product from grain-oriented transformer steel, which is not this listing. LVHV and performance EVs push thinner gauges, higher silicon and tighter stamping burr control to cut iron loss at high inverter frequencies. Coatings provide interlaminar insulation; annealing after stamping restores permeability. It is still steel, fully recyclable in the steel scrap stream, but it is specified magnetically rather than structurally. This is not AHSS, not mild steel, and not a chassis alloy. The buyable form is coil for high-speed stamping of stator and rotor stacks.
