NdFeB Magnets
Sintered neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnets for traction motors, distinct from elemental neodymium.
Overview
NdFeB magnets are the high-energy-product rare-earth permanent magnets used in most high-performance automotive traction motors, electric power steering motors and a host of actuators. The library's elemental neodymium page is the metal; this listing is the processed magnet — sintered or bonded NdFeB, often dysprosium- or terbium-substituted for high-temperature grades. LVHV and performance EVs rely on sintered NdFeB in interior permanent-magnet and some axial-flux machines. Coatings (nickel, epoxy, aluminium) are mandatory against corrosion. High-temperature motor grades and grain-boundary-diffused magnets are specified to hold remanence under rotor heating. Recycling and substitution (ferrite, SmCo, induction machines) are live OEM topics, but NdFeB remains the default for power-dense luxury and performance e-motors. It is not the same as the dysprosium or neodymium element listings.
