Magnesium Alloy WE43
Rare-earth magnesium alloy WE43 for wrought motorsport and aerospace parts, distinct from AZ31 and generic magnesium alloys.
Overview
WE43 is a yttrium- and rare-earth-containing magnesium alloy used as wrought sheet, extrusion and forging, and in some sand and investment castings. It offers better high-temperature strength and creep resistance than the AZ family, which is why it appears on motorsport and aerospace parts rather than high-volume die-cast instrument-panel beams. The library already has a generic magnesium-alloys family page (die-cast AZ91-class uses) and AZ31 as the wrought sheet and extrusion commodity grade. WE43 is the rare-earth grade: gearbox details, engine components and specialised lightweight housings that see higher temperature than AZ31 will tolerate. Corrosion protection, ignition risk in machining swarf, and rare-earth supply are all part of the specification. It is not a drop-in for AZ31 sheet closures.
