Thermal Interface Materials
Gap fillers, greases and pads that couple heat from cells, inverters and e-motors into cold plates.
Overview
Thermal interface materials (TIMs) are the greases, gap fillers, pads and phase-change compounds that sit between a hot component and a heat sink or cold plate. In automotive they are specified for battery modules, traction inverters, onboard chargers and e-motor windings — anywhere air gaps would throttle heat flow. Silicone rubber and silicone sealants exist in the library; those are gaskets and FIPG, not TIM products. Automotive TIMs are typically silicone or non-silicone polymer filled with ceramic or metal-oxide powders, supplied as dispensable gap filler, cure-in-place, pad or grease. Electrical isolation versus conductivity is a separate specification from thermal conductivity. They are not structural adhesives and not potting compounds, though the chemistries overlap. The buyable material is the TIM system, not the cold plate.
