Advanced Aluminium Alloys (5000 Series)
Non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium alloys known for exceptional corrosion resistance and excellent weldability.
Overview
The 5000 series aluminum alloys use magnesium as the primary alloying element, offering a favorable strength-to-weight ratio and high fatigue resistance. They are extensively used in automotive body-in-white structures and fuel systems because they maintain their mechanical properties after welding. Unlike the 6000 series, these alloys achieve strength through solid-solution strengthening and work hardening rather than heat treatment. Their superior performance in corrosive environments makes them ideal for both structural and underbody components.
